Consigning Your Instrument for Sale

If you own a good violin or other string instrument that you wish to sell, we may agree to sell if for you on consignment.  We charge far less than most dealers and advertisie nationally on the internet and elsewhere, with thousands of visitors to our site and store.  Consignment is the fairest arrangement for the seller.

  • To avoid conflict of interest for our clients, we do not buy instruments from private owners who contact us.
  • Your instrument must have a fair market value of $5000 or more.
  • Most "factory" violins, labled as "Stradivarius" or such, are generally not of a level of quality that we would accept for consignment.  If you have a violin labeled Strad or Guarneri or the like, odds are very high that is it NOT by one of these great makers; there are hundreds of thousands of these copies extant.
  • Once we have the instrument, we will let you know if we can use it.  We do have standards as to quality of construction, sound and etc.  Please don't be offended if your instrument does not meet these standards.
  • Extensively damaged instruments cannot be consigned in most cases.
  • If repairs or setup are needed to bring the instrument up to proper standards, we will give you an estimate of the cost to you before we begin any work or finalize a consignment contract.
  • We can save you money, as we charge far less than most dealers and auction houses, with a commission rate of only 12.5% of the final sale value.
  • We will list your instrument on our site and advertise it.  We will also inform regular clientele of the instrument and get the word out about it.  As a dealer, we only profit from sale, so we will do all we can to place your instrument with the right buyer.
  • Consignment period is 6 months; this assures that we will have time to show the instrument properly.

CONTACT US with details about your instrument after you have read the above information.  We will get back to you within 48 hours.  If consignment seems a good avenue for both parties, we will arrange to have your instrument picked up and charge you for insured shipping (usually less than $30.)

Thank you.
