  Frequently Asked Questions

(Sorry, but WE CANNOT TELL YOU THE VALUE OF AN INSTRUMENT BY EMAIL OR PHONE.  There are too many variables about label, maker, condition and etc., and WE NO LONGER DO APPRAISALS.  Please bring the instrument to a violin shop near you.  If you wish to Consign an fine instrument with us for sale, please contact us.)

1.  Can I return an item if it's not right for me?
Of course.  We want happy, long term clients.  See our Guarantee, Trade-In and Returns page.

2. How soon can I expect my instrument to arrive?
We usually ship within 72 hours, depending upon stock availability. Destination arrival dates differ with differing geographical locales.  We will do our best to ensure that you get your package as soon as possible!  We will contact you when we ship and give you and expected arrival date.

3. How can I change an order once it's made?
We cannot guarantee that an order, once placed, can be cancelled, because it may have already moved through our processing system by the time you contact us.  However, don't worry: contact us by email or phone and we will do our best to make changes as soon as possible.

4. What about guarantees, defects and long-term returns?
You always have a full week to try out the instrument at your home, with full return and exchange privileges.  At AVA we want to you find the right instrument!  Again, please see our Guarantee page as well.

5. I have an older violin.  Can you tell me about it and what it's worth?  And do you buy instruments?

Unfortunately, no one can accurately appraise your string instrument with just a verbal description from you.  Labels are often inaccurate, and judging such vital variables as condition, origin and sound are impossible without more information.  At any rate, due to extreme demand, we no longer provide appraisal services.

In regards to the sale of your instrument, we do not buy instruments from private parties; there is just too much potential for conflict of interest, both in valuting the instrument and in that we only wish to buy instruments that we feel are the best choice for our clients.   If you own a fine instrument, one that would be good for our clients, we may take this on a consignment basis, which we believe is the only fair way for a dealer to sell your violin in these circumstances.  Of course, we must actually see it before making any further judgements or commitments. .
